BEV Diag

Privacy policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

The BEV Diag app has no account, no advertising and no analytics or tracking, and everything it reads stays on your device unless you choose to send it. Test versions of the app have a problem report form: a report reaches us only when you send it yourself, and what it contains is described below. This website has one optional sign-up form for news and beta invitations; what it collects is described below.

The app: data it handles

The app: where it goes

The app uploads nothing by itself. Recorded sessions live in the app's storage on your phone. If you export a session, the file goes only where you send it, for example your email app or the share sheet.

The full version is bought through Google Play. The purchase is handled by Google; we receive no payment details.

Older test builds for Android that were downloaded from GitHub check a small public file there (latest.json) to learn whether they may still be used. That request reveals your IP address to GitHub, as any web request does, and carries no data from the app. Versions from Google Play and TestFlight do not make it.

Problem reports from test versions

Test versions of the app (Google Play testing and TestFlight) have a "report a problem" form. Sending a report is optional: the app prepares a message, opens your email app and you decide whether to send it. Nothing is sent in the background.

What a report contains: what you wrote, a screenshot of the app screen you were on, the app version, your phone model and system version, the app language, your OBD adapter, the car profile, your car's VIN, the battery values the app had read, recent app errors and, unless you untick them, the adapter communication logs from your last connections. Because it arrives as an e-mail, we also see the e-mail address you send it from.

Why: to find and fix problems in the app and to answer you. We do not use it for advertising and we do not sell or share it.

Where it is stored: in our mailbox, which is run by Google (Gmail). Google acts as our processor.

How long: until you ask us to delete it.

Deleting it: write to bevdiag@gmail.com from the address you sent the reports from, and we will delete your reports and our replies. You can also ask to see what we hold.

Sign-up form on this website

Signing up is optional and based on your consent. You can withdraw it at any time.

What we collect: the e-mail address you enter, which phone you use (iPhone, Android or both), your car's make and model, and, only if you fill them in, the year, generation, battery capacity, whether the battery was replaced or modified (with your description), your OBD adapter and a free-text comment. We also store the time you gave consent and which version of the consent text you saw. We do not store your IP address.

Why: to tell you about BEV Diag news and to invite you to test the app, matching invitations to cars and phones. We do not use it for advertising and we do not sell or share it for other purposes.

Where it is stored: in a database run by Amazon Web Services in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). It acts as our processor.

How long: until you ask us to delete it. Signing up again with the same e-mail address updates your earlier entry instead of creating a new one.

Your rights: you can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete your data, or to stop contacting you, by writing to bevdiag@gmail.com. You can also complain to your national data protection authority.

Third parties

The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services. Problem reports you send are held in Gmail (Google), and the sign-up form's data by Amazon Web Services, both as described above.

Retention and deletion

You can delete any recorded session in the app, and uninstalling the app removes all of the data it keeps on your phone. Problem reports you have sent and your sign-up entry are deleted on request, as described above.

Children

The app is not directed at children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version and its date will appear on this page.
